Barry Avrich

Show Stopper: The Theatrical Life of Garth Drabinsky

Barry Avrich was born in Montreal, Quebec. Over 30 years, he has become an acclaimed BIOS-doc filmmaker responsible for films on some of the most controversial and popular icons in modern history including Harvey Weinstein, Bob Guccione, and of course Garth Drabinsky.

In addition to his biographical documentaries, Avrich has produced and directed successful stage to screen adaptations of Shakespeare theatrical productions in partnership with The Stratford Festival. Avrich is a veteran of the advertising world responsible for thousands of high profile ad campaigns for films and concert tours. He is also author of 3 books including Selling The Sizzle: The Magic + Logic of Entertainment Marketing.

Barry will be taking questions from the audience after the screening of his film, Show Stopper.



Rouzbeh Noori

The Philosopher King

Winner of the Rising Star Award at the 2012 Canada International Film Festival, Rouzbeh (Ray) Noori is building an impressive reputation within the filmmaking industry. Having studied Mathematics and Film Theory at University of Waterloo, he directed his first short film, The Lock in 2006. The acclaimed Parallels (2008) and Memory(n.) (2009) followed, screening at multiple festivals including the Florence International Film Festival. His first feature film, The Incidental (2012), a paranoid conspiracy thriller, won numerous awards including Best Feature at the Local Focus Film Festival in Canada.

In 2011, Rouzbeh moved from Milton to Malmö, Sweden, where he wrote, produced and directed his sophomore feature film, The Philosopher King.

Rouzbeh will be taking questions from the audience after the screening of his film, The Philosopher King.



James Brylowski

A Mile in These Hooves

Since 2003, James Brylowski has written, produced and directed commercials, short documentaries and a TV series for Canadian broadcaster YTV. In 2014, Brylowski wrote, directed, produced and was the cinematographer on the short film, A Mile in these Hooves, which granted Brylowski a Golden Sheaf Award for Best Comedy and continues to screen and win awards around the world.

In 2014, he was nominated for a prestigious KM Hunter Award in the Film/Television category. Brylowski is an alumnus of Humber College’s Comedy Writing & Performing program.



Emily Preston

Print Under Pressure

Emily Preston is a third year film student at Ryerson University in Toronto. She is an aspiring cinematographer and documentary director. Print Under Pressure is her first documentary and was shot using black and white 16mm film with a 1940's Bell and Howell motion picture camera.




Amanda Wilton

The Milton filmmaker, Amanda Wilton, has interned with The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has worked as a Production Assistant on the music video for Hedley's hit song “Crazy For You”, and is currently employed by Corus Entertainment. Her debut short film, The Change, co-created with Samantha Kelly premiered at last year's Milton Film Festival. Amanda is thrilled to be returning to the festival for the second year in a row with the premiere of her latest project: #TECHNOLOGY.”



Samantha Kelly

Samantha Kelly is a local actress and filmmaker. Samantha's debut film creation, The Change, was one that she co-created with Amanda Wilton and also starred in. She enjoys the film and television industry by working diversely within it as a performer, producer and creator.


Our Host: Ron Base

We are pleased to welcome author and journalist Ron Base as our official Festival host and M.C.

Most Miltonians know Ron Base as the author of the popular 'Sanibel Sunset Detective' novels, but fewer know of his previous life as an acclaimed journalist. From 1981 to 1987, Base wrote movie reviews for the Toronto Star and profiled the major stars of the day, including Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Michael Caine, Eddie Murphy, Richard Burton, Dustin Hoffman, Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Woody Allen, Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Kevin Costner.

During this time, he hosted a syndicated radio show, Marquee Magazine at the Movies and also co-hosted The Movie Show with Alex Barris for TV Ontario. He also appeared frequently on the CTV network's Canada AM to talk about movies.
