An expatriate French couple (Denis Ménochet and Marina Foïs) operate an organic farm in a small village in Galicia, Spain. There, they lead a peaceful life, although coexisting with the local people isn’t as idyllic as they would like. A conflict with their neighbors, the Anta brothers, causes tensions between locals and foreigners to boil over in this edge-of-your-seat thriller. Based on a true story, and winner of a remarkable 56 international film awards, including 9 at Spain’s Goya Awards.

“That’s the visceral potency of “The Beasts,” which suggests that in order to take another person’s life, you have to see them as less than human — or less than yourself. For its second half, in the aftermath of a twist that shouldn’t be spoiled, the film takes on an unexpected depth and even a semblance of closure, though it shouldn’t be a surprise that no one fully gets what they want.” – Carlos Aguilar, Los Angeles Times
