The 2022 Allegra Audience Choice Awards have been announced, with an award given for Best Short Film and Best Canadian Feature Film.
The winner for Best Short Film is FINDING YOUR RHYTHM, an inspirational drama about an aspiring professional dancer who gets into a car accident with a drunk driver and is left to live the rest of her life in a wheelchair. Director Leah Galloway is a recent graduate of the Humber College Advanced Diploma in Film and Television Production who made her directorial debut in 2020 with Friendly Faces & Safe Spaces, a documentary which was selected by the New Renaissance Film Festival (London, UK), the Kids First Film Festival (London UK) and the NYC Mental Health Film Festival where Leah participated in a Director’s Roundtable.
The winner of the Best Canadian Feature Award is the acclaimed dystopian drama NIGHT RAIDERS, about a desperate Cree woman who joins an underground band of vigilantes to get her daughter back from a State children’s academy. The film is the feature film debut of director Danis Goulet, winner of the Emerging Talent Award at TIFF 2021, and was co-produced by Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit).
